Stjöit sjielin - Fix the seal by Roee Cohen & Elisa Makarevitch, February 3-28 2021

The research-based collaborative project Stjöit sjielin - Fix the seal settles between gaps of information within the relationship between the grey seals and the Ostrobothnian society - in which the dialectal Swedish word sjiel (soul) previously stood for seal.
Through interviews and recorded performances it aspires to mediate between humans and seals. As the seal is believed to possess magic traits, the project refers to old Ostrobothnian spell-binding rituals (read: Omlagning) as a tool to transform the negative tension into an engaging dialog with the regional cultural history.

The project is initiated by the Israeli photographer and new media artist Roe Cohen and the Fenno-Swedish theatre actor and journalist Elisa Makarevitch.

Stjöit sjielin - Fix the seal is kindly supported by Svenska kulturfonden, Svensk-Österbottniska samfundet and Teaterstiftelsen Vivicas Vänner.
The exhibition is kindly supported by Svenska Kulturfonden and Taiteen edistämiskeskus (Taike).
